A Companion for the Journey

What is Spiritual Direction?

A Spiritual Direction session is an hour set aside to pay attention to God's movement in and around you. It is a time to search, listen, wrestle, and rest in the Divine.

Together we pay attention to how the Spirit might be nudging, inviting, and healing you. Spiritual Direction enables you to listen to yourself and God.

I believe there is no separation of the holy and ordinary. Yet as we rush through our daily life, we so easily miss the activity of the Spirit. No topic or aspect of life is off-limits in a direction session because the Divine is in it all.

Who is Spiritual Direction for?

It is for you — the average, the mystic, the skeptic, the deeply devoted, and the wanderer.

It is for those who crave silence and those who struggle to stop for even a moment.

It is for lifelong Christians, vocational ministers, those who are questioning their faith, and those actively walking away from the church.

I am committed to reverence the dignity, equality, rights, and gifts of all persons.

My clients come from diverse backgrounds and locations.  Most of my clients are long-distance. Zoom and phone sessions can be just as powerful as sitting in the same room. If you are local, we can meet in my office in Ewing, New Jersey.

Free, Initial session

Our first time together will be a low-pressure meeting to get to know each other, ask questions, and experience a short spiritual-direction session.

If we discern that we are a good fit, I would be honored to journey with you as we listen to, wrestle with, and rest in God.

“Spiritual Direction is like getting to unpack your spiritual baggage with a kind and patient friend. It has been so grounding.

Annalise helps me to acknowledge the darkness while staying in the present and finding that God offers comfort and peace even here.”

“Annalise has guided me through some of my most difficult seasons and one of my most fulfilled times, teaching me how to sense God’s presence and integrate my experiences in both contexts.

As a culture, we have finally started to internalize the necessity for therapy—it’s time we learn how essential spiritual direction is.”

Questions that might bring you to Spiritual Direction

  • Where is God? My old ways of relating to God do not make sense anymore.

  • How do I discern God’s will in my life?

  • What is my calling or vocation?

  • How is God inviting me to address the injustice, suffering, and pain in the world?

  • What is holding me back from deepening my relationship with God?

  • What are my gifts? What good do I have to offer the world?

  • What does it look like to flourish at this time of my life?

  • What is God trying to say to me?

Sessions In-Person or Online

As a Director, I am not here to fix or give advice.

Instead, my role is to hold a loving space for you to cultivate awareness. We might do this by chatting, praying, sitting in silence, or experiencing different spiritual practices. Whatever we do, we do it with the intent of discerning God’s presence and movements.

Most people find that having one session per month is a good rhythm.

Bekah

“I had never done Spiritual Direction before, and was a little hesitant at first, but it has become something I look forward to every month.

Annalise is a patient and approachable guide to help you spiritually process current events in your life.”

Cost

$75 per session.

However, the cost should never be a hindrance to seeking Spiritual Direction. If you are unable to afford the investment at this time, I would be glad to have a conversation about what might work for you and your budget.
